Execute From Your Energy, Not From Your Effort: The Secret to True Productivity
Productivity has the most significant impact on your bottom line.
But do you believe that greater productivity means you must work harder to get ahead? Do you subscribe to the idea that with hard work comes stress and struggle?
As I wrote about in my latest best-selling book, Stressless Success: The Surprising Secrets to a Life of Passion, Purpose, and Prosperity, if you believe that you must work hard, then your work will be hard. Many professionals justify their existence through hard work, and they wear this like a badge of honor. They believe that working the hardest and longest of anyone they know is the secret to success.
But many people get so stressed out from working this hard that they wreck their physical and mental health. They often jeopardize their professional and personal relationships, too.
Is it any wonder why so many people are burned out? How can you genuinely kill it at work when you’re killing yourself in the process?
Strive Without Stress to Improve Productivity
Struggle and hard work will get you somewhere, but it will be tough and probably won’t get you where you truly want to be. I’m not here to tell you to stop striving but to please stop stressing and struggling.
How much you accomplish each day is a key measurement of your productivity and the impact you’ll have on your bottom line. But does pushing yourself and those around you improve productivity?
Maybe, if you’re referencing standard definitions of productivity, but my perspective on productivity takes a different approach. In my high-performance consulting work, we discuss the importance of being clear on your top goals and identifying the steps you must take each day to achieve them. We emphasize how critical it is to:
- Begin each day in healthy and energized ways
- Schedule uninterrupted blocks of time for work
- Take breaks between each block of time to recharge
While productivity has the most significant impact on your bottom line, your health and well-being have a substantial effect on your productivity.
These are all incredible pieces of advice that will work wonders for you. But are they the complete answer to increasing your productivity?
What good is it to cross important tasks of your lists if you’re still not getting the results you need to improve your bottom line? It’s not how efficient you are at checking off your to-do list that matters; it’s getting the optimal result from completing important tasks.
But how do you get the optimal result?
Shifting Your Energy Before Taking Action
You get better results with less effort when you take action from an elevated place of positive anticipation and excitement instead of stress and struggle.
If you’ve read any of my past articles, grabbed a copy of my latest book, or watched any of my videos from the last few years, then you know that everything is energy. And it’s the energy that emanates from the way you feel emotionally and physically that creates the results around you.
If you take on your tasks while stressed out, you may get bad or unpleasant results that cause more stress. But, when you preemptively get more into an energized, motivated, and hopeful state of being and allow the ease of positive and creative energy to flow while doing tasks, you will achieve more positive results. Do this by doing anything and everything you can to lift your spirits and get excited before taking action.
Tap into your inner being, one of eternal joy and hopeful anticipation. Find reasons to love and appreciate what you do and the company you work for. Taking action from this elevated place will get greater results, which is my definition of and the secret to true productivity.
